Heads are the most responsible parts of pressure vessels, tanks, and various other devices, apparatus, and pipelines in the process and oil industry, as well as in other economic branches.

Our heads manufacturing process uses the method of relative cold rolling and forming according to the principle of BOLDRINI – Italy. With this method of production, it is possible to produce heads of different shapes and dimensions in small batches or even individually, in contrast to deep drawing, which requires the production of very expensive tools.

To correctly order the heads, it is important to define the purpose of the vessel (tank, apparatus) on which the head is to be installed. In this regard, there are two main types, that is, the heads to be installed on pressure vessels that are subject to inspection by the Designated Body for Pressure Equipment, and the heads to be installed on vessels and other tanks that do not fall under the jurisdiction of these institutions.

For pressure vessels, depending on the type and purpose of the vessel, the following regulations apply:

Rulebook on technical requirements for design, manufacturing, and conformity assessment of pressure equipment;
Rulebook on technical requirements for design, manufacturing, and conformity assessment of simple pressure vessels;
The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU);
The transportable pressure equipment Directive (TPED 2010/35/EU)
A) A whole series of norms and standards covering these areas apply in addition to these main regulations. The heads intended for installation on vessels that are subject to these regulations are inspected and certified with a stamp by a representative of accredited institutions. They are subject to inspection before, during, and after completion of production at the manufacturer, and have certified technical documentation, which the user–vessel manufacturer enters into the Technical Documentation of the pressure vessel.

For all of the above reasons, such heads must be completely defined when ordering, which must be done by

the designer of the vessel or the plant in which the head is to be installed. For detailed ordering of pressure vessel heads, and inquiries about the offer, and production from the customer’s materials (service), it is necessary to consult our commercial and technical service, which provides the customer with an Inquiry Sheet with all the information required for the production

of heads. The following information must be specified in the purchase order:

Name of the head and standard;
Outer diameter;
Minimum wall thickness or sheet thickness standardized to a higher value in which the thinning

of the sheet during processing is taken into account, which, for example, for steels with Re=240 N/mm2 equals up to 10% of thickness for Torispherical heads, and up to 15% of thickness for Ellipsoidal heads;

Material quality and standard;
Type and category of the vessel on which the head is to be installed;
Working matter;
Working conditions: pressure and temperatures;
Special requirements related to the position of the welded joint, heat treatment, edge preparation, etc.
B) The heads that are not intended for installation in pressure vessels, i.e. for general purposes or of commercial quality, can be ordered only by specifying the name of the head with the diameter and thickness, quality of the material, and possibly some additional requirements in terms of control, edge preparation, etc.

The manufacturer shall not be responsible for the heads ordered in this way if the customer installs them on pressure vessels or treats them in some other way that may cause a structural breakdown.
